Action: Reduces the Kapha by tika, katu and ushna properties and vata reduction by snigdha and ushna properties.

Best in managing KAPHA and VATA

External uses: Inflammation is relieved by its local application. Useful in skin disorders, helminth infestations, and ulcers (Vrana Treatment).

Internal Use:

Nervous system: Works as an analgesic. Used in chronic arthritis, osteoarthritis, sciatica neuralgia, and painful conditions like headaches and migraines.

Digestive system: Due to the pungent and bitter taste, it acts as an appetizer, digestant, laxative, and is effective in destroying worms in the stomach. Helps in AMA clearance and liver detoxification. Aids in healthy lipid control and reduces bad cholesterol.

Circulatory system: As it is Ushna (hot in property) and has pungent and bitter taste, it works as a cardio stimulant and blood purifier, and helps in reducing swelling (edema). The oil is used in mumps, filariasis, and chancre.

Respiratory system: Works as an expectorant in upper respiratory tract infections, especially Kapha and Vata predominant ones.

Urinary system: Acts as a diuretic and helps in dysuria and gonorrhea.

Reproductive system: Traditionally used for puerperal disorders as a uterine tonic and to purify breast milk.

Skin: Due to its diaphoretic properties, it helps in many skin conditions.
